Hiya
Maybe being stoopid but how does the student edition know when you've
used all three product keys?

Hiya
Maybe being stoopid but how does the student edition know when you've
used all three product keys?

when a MacOffice app starts up, it broadcasts its Product Identification
(PID) to the local network. All running office instances then reply with
their PID. If one of the returned PIDs is the same as the starting app's
PID, the starting app shuts down.

So each instance doesn't care if you've used the other two licenses - it
only cares about other instances with the same PID.

Thanks for your replies, I see what your saying but then if the
computer isn't on a local network how is the PID or the product key
logged? I had an earlier query about putting the Office onto a
computer which wouldn't allow it as it said I had exceeded my
allowance of 3 licences. I hadn't but even if I had how would it
know? Does the product automatically register itself on the net?
Thanks again
Andy
