product registration key

i was recently given a hp laptop for my birthday and whenever i opened up
word 2007 it asked for the product key. i tried to put in a code on the
bottom of my laptop which was on a microsoft sticker but it said that the
product key was incorrect. what should i do because now i really need to use
word

The code on the base is, if you read it for MS windows/Vista.
You would need to read the paperwork that came with the PC, or contact HP,
to asertain where they put the code.
Thats assuming the version installed is not a trial version

The product key for the operating system is likely the one on the bottom
of the machine.

Word is an Office product and it will require a different product key.
If your new laptop included the program(s) and not just trial samples, then
you need to find the product key for that product or Office, which includes
that product (Word) This information will come from the seller/maker of the
laptop.

If it is a trial program, then you will need to buy the product in order
to get a Product key code.
