Proejct traffic light based on one task

Hi.

I have a project-level traffic light with values 0 (On schedule) and 1
(Late). This value is dependent on a single milestone tasks schedule.
1) Is it possible to write a formula to a task level field and update the
project field (whether this milestone is on schedule or not) ?
2) Must I define a new task -level enterprise field to attach the code or
can I use standard fields - and which one ? With VBA ?
3) An example of the formula ?

A lot of questions - much obliged for pushing me to the right track.
