Professional Project Organizations | Special Interest Groups

We're currently writing a group paper regarding Professional Project
Management organizations, and we would like to request PM feedback on what
organizations they think are the best and why.

Also, we are frantically trying to find definitions for professional groups
vs. affinity (special interest) groups, but can't seem to locate anything
definitive.

Any help you can provide would be GREAT!

You may have a look at PMI's Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK).
It describes three types of PM organizations.
