Profile Auto Creation

P

Patrick

I have a 2003 Terminal server/Metaframe farm and want to publish apps to my
users. I installed Office 2003 PRO using the custom installation wizard and
specified the profile creation information for Outlook 2003. When I attempt
to email data from within the published app I get an error indicating that
there is no mail profile setup on the server and that I need to go to the
mail applet and set one up. How do I get the MAPI profile to create when
Outlook is spawned?

Have you ever started Outlook manually on that machine?

Yep. It still prompts me. I have uninstalled and re-installed Office like 4
times and it still does it. How can I get the PRF file to load when Outlook
is run for the first time. I've never had this problem before. It usually
works...

That's not quite what I was asking: If you've only started Outlook programmatically, it may not be capable of importing the PRF file in that state, the way it would if the user started Outlook manually.

In any case, after you start the TS session, but before you start Outlook, search the registry for the value ImportPRF. If it's not there, that's the problem -- Outlook doesn't know what PRF file to import.

Sue, Thank you for your correspondence on this issue, by the way... I believe
you are correct. I CAN get the Outlook profile to auto-generate now. I have
modified the existing office installation with CMW and it now auto-creates
when I run Outlook. If, however, I call Outlook from another application and
I have not opened Outlook first, I am prompted to create a profile. We have
an application that has email hooks. If I'm attempting to email from the
application and have not opened Outlook first it will prompt. Hmmmm. Looks
like I need a way to create the profile on login WITHOUT launching Outlook.
Any ideas?

If you have to to create a new profile without launching Outlook, you need to be looking at third-party tools. See http://www.slipstick.com/exs/olroam.htm#tools
