Program accessing email addresses

Hi, I should've used this group when I posted my enquiry earlier. Found this
group and I'm repeating the question.

I'd be very grateful is someone can advise or point me in the right
direction re ridding this prompt of 'a program is trying to access your email
address...' each time I clicked 'new', 'reply' or 'forward' an email.

'Reporting an error' produced a statement from MS that this has to do with
WinFax Pro and I'm then directed to Symantec website. I'm no wiser. I've
tried searching for WinFax Pro in my system but I just cannot locate such a
file or program at all.

I've done a couple of scans to ensure that this is not a virus. All looks
okay except for this annoying promt now.

This must be caused by an add-in. What addins are listed in Tools->
Options-> tab Other-> button Advanced Options-> button COM Add-Ins/Add-In
Manager?

I have the same problem. I use Outlook 2002. I followed your
instructions below and the COM Add-Ins screen is empty. The Add-In
Manager screen has "Exchange Extensions Property pages," with an
Install button.

What is causing the problem and how can I get rid of it?

What version of outlook do you use? Is this a corporate computer? Do you
send faxes?

something is reading addresses when you click the buttons - winfax pro is
one such program. it's been so long since I used it that I'm not sure if
it's visible in the addins list.

I forgot that it also happens when I reply to an e-mail or forward it.

what programs do you have installed that interface with outlook? this
includes external programs that use outlook's contacts as well as Outlook
addins.

A list of programs that might cause this erorr is here:
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2002sp3.htm#problems. Note that many
programs on the list have since updated to avoid the security alert.

I have a fax program, FaxTools eXPert-- BVRP software, but this is not
active unless I specifically turn it on.
My Norton AntiVirus has the e-mail screening turned off for both
outgoing and incoming e-mails.
Under options I have checked for Microsoft Word to edit e-mail
messages.

I cannot think of anything else, and I do not believe that the above
are causing the problem.

I've managed to sort this out (fingers crossed) when I went into another site
and an instruction from one of the users is working for me.

Apparently, it is a 'registry' action to be taken.

Go to START, click 'RUN', type regedit and in the window that opens up: take
the following path under My Computer:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Office>Outlook>Addins>PDFMOutlook.PDFMOutlook>LoadBehaviour.

Change the value data of 3 to 0 in edit DWORD value and click OK.

I followed these steps and the prompt has stopped.

I followed your instructions and it works for me too. Thank you. Except
that my Outlook program does not work now--this is not because of this
change but happened last night, when I was not able to send or receive
e-mails or delete the ones that are in my Out folder. But at least I
can now compose e-mails without that box popping up, even if I cannot
send them!
