Program applying one rule to all messages

I had rules setup in 2004. Upgraded to 2008. Fine except for one rule. The rule looks for e-mails from certain friends and moves them to the friends folder. However, since the upgrade to 2008 all messages that are not acted upon by other rules are dumped to the friends folder. However, I only want messages from certain people to be moved to the friends folder. I deleted the rule and reconstructed it, but the same problem persists. Suggestions? Thanks.

can you describe what settings the rule has? Better still would be to
post a picture of the rules dialog box to a web server
likehttp://imageshack.us/ and post the uRL in this thread.

I would prefer not to post an image of the rules dialogue box as it has private e-mail addresses in it.

I can tell you what the settings are:

If
any criteria are met:
from contains (e-mail address removed)
from contains (e-mail address removed)
from contains (e-mail address removed)
from contains (e-mail address removed)
from contains (e-mail address removed)
from contains (e-mail address removed)
from contains (e-mail address removed)

Then
move message: Friends (On My Computer)
set category: Friends

OK, that is straightforward enough. But...

is the 'do not apply other rules...' check box checked?

If not, do any later rules pick up on those email addresses, or on the
'Friends' category?

Yes, the do not apply other rules check box is checked (but it is grayed out).

good. that's how it should be - after moving a mail, other rules should
not be applied.

There must be some other mail that is acting on the messages in question
- either in the rules or in the Mailing List Manager (under the tools
menu)

Thanks Barry. Your diagnosis was correct. After I did some research I found some other incorrectly setup rules. Thanks for your help.
