program association?

I am not sure when or why this happened, but somewhere along the way I can no longer open any Word Document. I get the window with a big red circle and X that reads "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." When I go to the File Types tab there is a Microsoft Word Document listed.
I am using ME.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

If you have Word 97 or later, try re-registering Word by clicking on
Start | Run | Open: winword /r | OK.
