program closed when trying to save word document

I tried to save a large word document and got an error box that said the program had to close. A box was checked that indicated my doc would open as the program restarted. It did not. A blank or new doc appeared. When I try to open it through Autorecover it opens for a second then the same box appears and it happens all over again.
Is there any way to retrieve this document?

OK, the document is corrupt, and there is something in the document that is
crashing Word when it opens.

The AutoRecover file depends upon the original file. Word tries to open the
most-recently saved version of the original file, then apply any updates
since then from the AutoRecover file. If the original is corrupt Word will
simply crash each time.

If you go to Word>references>Save and turn on "Always make backup" then you
will have a backup that will give you an extra layer of protection when this
happens. The backup is the version just prior to the most recent save (so
the version from two saves ago). But if you never save, the backup file is
not created.

In your case, try starting Word and going to File>Open within Word.

Drop down the "Enable" box, and set it to "Recover text from any file".

Then try your document. If there is any text in there, you will get the
text back without any formatting.

Best you can do this time. Turn on "Always make backup" so you don't het
caught again...

Cheers
