Program Crash on start-up

I am having a problem with Word 2000 crashing on a Windows
98 machine upon start up. All other Office 2000 products
launch properly and work fine. Word, however, gives me
the "imfamous" "This Program Has Performed An Illegal
Function" message and then shuts down Word. I've re-
installed both Office 2000 and Word itself and still I get
nowhere. Can someone please make a suggestion as to what
I might try. Thank you.

search for and rename normal.dot
