Program freezes when opening symbols

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Hi,

Recently when I try opening the symbols panel for word the program freezes. This requires a force quit. This also occurs when I click on comment.

Any Suggestions

Symbols are font-based so it sounds like you have either a somewhat
different strain of the font flu being spread around by Snow Leopard or a
corrupt font cache.

The first thing to try is simply shut down your Mac, wait 1-2 minutes before
restarting. If that doesn't correct it, run Font Book's Validate Fonts &
Resolve Duplicates features, then another cold startup.

Should the problem continue, Quit all Office apps then go to your:

User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008

folder & delete: Office Font Cache (12) & Word Font Substitutes

Cold startup & see how things go.
