Program is not responding

When I attempt to close Word it hangs up and I get a
message that "Program is not responding." Also I get
frequent "Word has a problem and must close" type of
message which are becoming more frequent.

Should I attempt to reinstall software? Has anyone used
the Troubleshoot Utility and with what results?
