Program not responding...

I am having a problem with all of the Office 2002
programs. When I am in the "Open file" window and I hit
the drop down menu to browse to the file I want to open,
the program will stop responding for about 30 seconds. It
will do this the first time I open the drop down menu
each time I load the program. If I try again after the
first time, without restarting the program, it will work
like a charm.

Any help would be great!

It sounds like the program is having trouble enumerating your harddrives. There are a couple of reasons for this. One of which is having Network drives. Is that the case?

There are numerous network drives, some of which are not
connecting at boot. could this be the problem?
