my wife has a LOT of word documents and powerpoint presentations that she created on her computer using office for mac 2004. now whenever she tries to open one of them, the program starts up then terminates itself. if she opens the program first then tries to open the file, it attempts to open then terminates the program. if you open the program then create a new file it terminates when you try to save it.
it was working one day and then it wasn't.

First of all, after looking at the version of Mac you are running, you are OK there. Please look at the requirements below for Office 2004 I have included for you. The first one is for Standard, Student and Teacher Edition. The second one is for the Professional Edition.
• Processor: G3, Mac OS X-compatible processor or higher
• Operating System: Mac OS X version 10.2.8 or later
• Memory: 256 MB of RAM
• Hard Disk1: 450 MB for a recommended install, 630 MB for a full drag-and-drop install
• Drives: CD-ROM drive (or connection to a local area network if installing over a network)
• Display: 1024 x 768 or higher-resolution monitor displaying thousands of colors
• Input Devices: Mouse or compatible pointing device
Additional items or services required to use certain features:
• Modem: 14.4 Kbps or higher.
• Internet Access: Internet connection through either an Internet service provider (ISP) or a network. Internet access might require a separate fee to an ISP; local or long-distance telephone charges might also apply.

My other recommendation is to make sure your 2004 software is fully updated to the present update out there. Also, to be on the safe side, try scanning all of the files with a(n) Virus Protection software. Sometimes, files can pick up viruses than can make their creator start to act funny.
