Programmed buttons keep re-setting

I have created a powerpoint file which uses buttons to navigate around.
I create these buttons from the menu and assign them as a hyperlink
"go to slide...". This works fine when I run the show, but if I save
the file, close it and re-open it, all the buttons revert to either no
action or "go to slide 1" which ruins all my hard work. Is anyone
aware of this problem and if so, how to fix it or point out what I'm
doing wrong

This seems to be a bug in the latest update to PowerPoint 2004.
Unfortunately, the solution is to uninstall PowerPoint and reinstall being
sure not apply the latest update.
