Proj 2003 Install - Unclear Instructions

D

Doug

I have purchased Project Server 2003 along with Proj Pro 2003 for my group.
The Installation Guide for Proj Server doesn't cover a lot of different
scenarios. Basically, it covers a couple upgrade paths and a new install
that applies only if you have MS Win2k3 Server installed.

I have Win2k Server that does not have some of the services referenced in
the Install Guide and earlier versions of some of the other services. (ie.
IIS 5.0 instead of 6.0).

I need FULL installation instructions to install Proj Server on a Win2k
server SP4 with IIS 5.0, MSDE Rel A, running on a Workgroup - Not a domain,
Not running Active Directory. I can supply additional current configuration
info as needed.

I have installed MSDE and the install log indicated a successful install. I
allowed network protocols, specified mixed security mode, forced an instance
name (MSProject), and forced a strong password.

I would like to get this completed this week.

Thanks,

Doug

Hi,

You can't do a full install with Win2K you must have win 2003 to get full
functionality (and SQL Server with Analysis Server, instead of MSDE).
Actually installing the software is often 10% or less of the work required
for a successful Project Server installation. There is a lot of
configuration required and it all needs driving from a set of requirements.
You might get the software working this week, but you are still a long way
from a successful implementation (deriving added value that makes the time
and effort of setting up and maintaining Project Server worthwhile). There
is some material on implementing Project Server in MSDN, but if you can't
setup one or two separate servers running Win 2003 server Project Server is
probably not the best solution for you.
