Proj Serv 03-Tasks update notifications emailed to Admin instead ofProject Ownter

This one has me stumped. When project resources update their tasks,
the update notifications for approval are being emailed to me instead
of the Project Owner. I am the administrator. This appears to be
happening only on projects that I have re-named. I have re- named
these projects the old fashioned way by exporting the project,
deleting them from the database and re-importing. I make sure that
the project owner is correct after re-importing. Not sure why this
is
happening?????

You should not delete projects the old way as there are many components now
in PS 2007 that require the Project UID to remain in place in order to be
able to tie things together like projects to timesheets for example.

Project 2007 allows you to overwrite a project plan on the server and it
also allows you to rename the project plan via PWA>Project Center>Edit
Project Properties. These two capabilities were not available in 2003 and
so required you to delete and re-import.

The reason you are getting the updates is not because you re-named the
project but because you essentially created a new schedule when you imported
the plan and when you do this, you become the Status Manager of all the
activities.

The person that will receive Project 2007 updates is the person who is
marked as the "Status Manager" for that particular task (this is a task
field). The Owner of the plan will need to open up the project in question,
include the field "Status Manager" and change the value to themselves for
all tasks they wish to receive the updates for and re-publish the plan. All
pending updates should transfer to the new "Status Manager" automacially for
approval.

Hope this helps,

Jonathan

Jonathan,

I appreciate your help...I'm sorry if you wasted your time on this.
If you look at the subject, this question is concerning a Project
Server 20003 environment. I used the term "Old-Fashioned Way" because
I have never gotten the Project Rename Utility to ever work properly
on my system.

Thanks.

No problem, I did not read the subject header closely enough.

In the 2003 version, to change the assignment owner, you must have the PM
open the plan up in Project Pro and re-publish the assignments with the
option "Become the owner of these assignments" enabled. Any future or
pending updates will move from your account to the PMs account.
