Project 2000 - Can I lock down cost information in Project from us

Is there a way in project 2000 where team members can use the plan for
updates, but not see actual resource rates/costs? Can I lock down
(passwords?) from users of the project plan? I don't want team members to see
the hourly rates of their fellow team members as this is confidential
information.

Thanks!

A philosophical aside, I've often wondered why such information is so
closely held. We keep score of our worth professionally by the compensation
we merit yet it seems like the last thing companies want to admit is just
how much or how little they value their workers. What's everyone so afraid
of anyway?

Adding to my other response, I've always felt that if a user is high enough
in the organizationto have actual access to the plannig file, they were high
enough to see the cost data. If not, give them a PDF of the portion of the
information that concerns them.

toast88,
No, not really. As long as the team members have electronic access to
the project file, they will be able to see the data. I am surprised the
file contains such sensitive information. Normally the rate table
represent generic rates for a class of resources (i.e. bid rate) which
is different than the actual pay rate for a given resource. However, I
have a suggestion. Why not use generic values (e.g. $1/hr) in the common
access file. All the EV calculation will still be valid although the
absolute numbers will be generic. Then have either a separate file with
the actual values that is linked to the common file, but is only
accessible to select individuals, or keep the sensitive data in a
protected Excel worksheet that is linked to the common project file.
Depending on the approach taken, there are various ways to link the
common file with a limited access file.

Hope this helps.
