Project 2000 & project server databse

We save all our projects in a SQL database using MSProject 2000. The problem
that we experience is that you can open the Resource Pool fairly quickly but
as soon as you try to filter on a Custom field (i.e Text1), project "hangs"
for 5 minutes or more before it returns the drop downs.
Is there a Hotfix or SP out there that would optimize the way Project
retrieves this data?
