Project 2002 - remove resources?

Josh

The MS Project Help system is harder to make sense of than the ending of
2001: A Space Odyssey, so I'm coming to the best source -- you guys!

I have a pretty simple project laid out in MS Project 2002. We've been using
temps to get this project completed, and there's been pretty high turnover.
I'd like to remove the temps who aren't on the project anymore from the
"Resource Names" dropdown list in the Gantt chart view. I can't figure out
how to do it without completely removing their history of completed tasks,
which I need to retain. I just don't want to be able to select their names
(or even see them) when assigning new tasks.

Any help?

Josh --

Ask your Project Server administrator to set the temp resources to Inactive
status. He/she can do this in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Hope this
helps.

Dale:

I don't have a Project Server Administrator; it's a locally stored file and
we're not using Project Server. I've tried creating a resource pool locally,
but if I add the column "Inactive" to my resource list, the value defaults to
"No" and I cannot change it (the dropdown arrow is grayed out).

Hi Josh,

I don't believe there is a way to remove resource's name from the Gantt
chart [Resource Name] field without deleting the resource and removing their
historical data. However, a couple of potential compromises come to mind.
1) In the resource sheet, insert a Flag field and set the flag to "Yes" for
the resources who are no longer available.
Sort the resource sheet by flag field and renumber the resources so the
flagged resources appear at the bottom of the sheet. The [Resource Name]
field in the Gantt chart shows resources sorted by ID.
2) Create a filter and filter out the "Yes" flagged resources. Use the
assign resource button and in the Resource List Options area, select the
filter you created. The flagged resources will not appear in the Assign
Resources dialog box.
3) Edit the list of resource names to add Inactive before their names.
Certainly the least elegant and most labor intensive.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
