Project 2002 Standard and Windows server 2003

Greetings,
I'm running into a installation issue trying to install Project 2002
standard on our Windows 2003 Citrix server. It keeps telling me that
"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this
installation." Now, all the other programs install just fine and it
works fine on our Windows 2000 Citrix server. I've looked over the
local policy and the group policies and it all looks dandy. Error
appears when I try to install from the local and domain administrator
accounts and if I use the cd install thru add/remove or while in
"change user /install" mode. I'm scratchin my head.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure I can directly help as I have no first hand experience with
installing Project on a Citrix terminal server.

However I did a quick search on Google for "citrix microsoft project"
and found hits and links, but mainly to older versions. Some of the
links might provide you an idea or two.

I've had more un-wanted "second-hand" experience (as a customer) with
trying to make Citirx Terminal software work. Not for Project, but
another commerical product. Lots of issues, which the IT folks were not
able to understand or resolve, with permissions and basic installation.
Took months to work, and sometimes with no resolution.

Bassed on this experience, and assuming you need this fixed and have
budget, I would stronly recommend you avoid time-wasting and ensure you
get access to a *real* expert from Citrix or Microsoft. This is
especially important, I think, since you are on new versions of Windows
and presumably terminal server.

Installation is a 1-time occurrance (hopefully) and you probably don't
need to build up much expertise.

Once you resolve the problem, via this forum or with Microsoft/Citrix,
it would be good if you could ensure it's posted here!

Turns out there was a policy that slipped thru. I was able to find it
using gpresult /z . It was only preventing .msi from installing
...thats why i was able to install all the other programs. Also
learned that Windows 2003 also has a great command line tool for
updating effective policies on the fly.. gpupdate. So much better
than those clunky secedit commands.

Thanks for reading..
