Project 2003 Client having problems publishing to 2002 Server

We are experiencing a problem where a project plan created on Project 2003
client is saved to the Project 2002 Server. When we try to open the project
the project name is displayed as projectname.published but the Version field
is blank. When the project is selected a message is displayed that "Project
Server was unable to find the specified project. Check the project name..."

Has anyone heard of this before?
