Project 2003 crash

Yaron

hi all,

I installed recently MSP 2003 SP2 and anytime I do the following the
application will crash:
- Enter a new task
- Split the screen to see task properties in the lower part of the
screen
- Change task type from 'Fixed Units' to anything else (sometimes only
openning the drop down list would cause the crash)

The same installation works fine on my desktop!

Any ideas?

-Thanks

I suspect that the cause of this is the new machine rather than anything
Project specific.

Try running some of the utilities that test PCs. Memory often causes
this sort of unattributable problem. If you can, try swapping your
memory with some from a different machine.

I believe this is related to OS issues or other MS applications
compatibility.
anyway I have noticed that every time I open a drop down list which is
related to the resources in the project the application crash.

If you were to set up another machine with exactly the same setup as the
one that exhibits the problem, I would expect it to work correctly.

There isn't an OS configuration setting which says "don't crash when
resource lists are opened".

The symptoms are typical of unpleasant and difficult to trace hardware
faults and that is where I would look as a first off.

Most people using Project have it happily co-existing with many
combinations of other Microsoft applications - in my case that includes
Excel, Access, Word, Visio, Visual Studio and so on. What applications
to you suspect are causing the conflict. Give us more details of your
setup, the applications you have, their version numbers and details of
service packs applied. Then we can see if anybody else has a similar
setup which either works or exhibits similar problems.

I have been able to clear up mysterious machine crashes by fixing flaws
on the hard disk using SpinRight from grc.com. Seems to work (knock on
wood) everytime we have one of those mysterious problems that aren't
fixed any other way.

ok - this might be a hardware issue - a friend who has the same laptop
as I have (HP compaq 6320) has exactly the same problem.

Agree with the HP software related problem - if you have HP laptop with
fingerprint reader AND THE SUPPORT software installed - it may be the cause
of this issue. Let us know if it's the problem, please...

hi Jan,

Do you suggest to uninstall the support software of the fingerprint
reader?
