Project 2003 data into Project Server 2007.

Ivor Davies

I have two questions that I hope someone can answer for me.

1) Is it possible to OPEN a PROJECT SERVER 2003 project using Project
Professional 2003, save it locally as an .mpp file - then OPEN that project
in Microsoft Office Project 2007 Professional (as an .mpp file) save and
publish it as a PROJECT SERVER 2007 project in our TEST / QA / DEV
environment? Would all the historical time capture imformation be available
in Project Server 2007.

2) Is it possible to copy data from the TASK USAGE view in a Project Server
2003 project and PASTE in into the same project created in PROJECT SERVER
2007, so that the data can be saved an published to the Project Server 2007
environment. Again, would all the historical time capture imformation be
available in Project Server 2007.

If either of the above is not possible, would it be possible for a Project
Server 2007 administrator to enter in resource time for other resources
(let's say some people in my department) in a project that we create in
Project Server 2007 without having each resource having to enter in their own
time? We want to collect two months of data (April and May 2008) using
existing project server 2003 time capture data into a NEW project saved and
published in Project Server 2007.

Please let me know if you can answer any of the above questions.

Thanks in advance...

Ivor

Hi Ivor,

Timesheet information is not migrated into Project Server 2007 from 2003.

While project scheduled, tasks and work information can be preserved, a
proper migration of projects needs to be planned as using adhoc approach does
not preserve custom fields or outline codes and the information they contain.
