project 2003 locks up trying to connect to project server

I have tried un-installing and re-installing MS project 2003, and each time I
try to open MS project it says it is trying to connect to but just freezes. I
can perform the same steps on another stystem and I am able to connect
without a problem.

two questions....
1. If I am uninstalling project 2003, why does it retain my server
connection settings.

2. where would I go to remove all of the remaining peices of 2003 so that i
would have to retype the server connection again?

Hi Tom,

Your issue sounds like what we are experiencing. If you try to log onto
Professional, the first time, it freezes, then, if you cancel and try to log
in again, it works fine. We have this problem on 95% of our systems and have
been unable to isolate the problem. We think its a
security/patch/update/hotfix issue, but are still confirming the theory.

Does your environment work if you connect, cancel and re-connect?

To retype your server connection, use the edit tool from the Project
Download site.

We have the same problem as described by Sara. Intresting to note that we do
only have this problem when workstation access the network via WIFI (11 Mbs).
With a normal hardwired connection we don't have the problem.

We think that the problem has something to do with a timeout or encryption.
We want to try if it is possible to change a registry setting, does anyone
know the registrysettings for timeouts? Is there a whitepaper available that
describes the registry settings.

All - we found the culprit.

We have XP with SP2 and McAfee 8.0 running. The interaction between those
to versions of those two problems is causing our lockup. If you downgrade
the virus scan or not load SP2, you don't have a problem. Works like a charm.

Our MS/virus person said there is a *.dll not playing nice. He is looking
into the issue.

Hope this helps.
