Andrew person,
The maximum number of tasks in a single Project file is 1 million and as
far as I am concerned, that is more than enough for a practically
manageable project. I suggest you break the project in smaller more
manageable pieces.

I don't know if Server has the same limitation but my guess is that it
does since it still uses the same basic scheduling engine.

1.5 million tasks? That's a suicide project!! Don't bet your reputation on
it and try to break it down to a number of 6 month subprojects (for the sake
of your sanity if nothing else!!)

Why dont we ask microsoft about number of tasks in their Project plan
for Project12. :)
1.5 million or what? :) Cheers

Very unlikely. They always break each release into a number of phases. Each
phase will have its own schedule. Further, each team working on part of
Project will have its own schedule. I doubt any schedule would have more
than 1000 tasks. Microsoft use a reasonably agile methodology and 1,000,000
would be anathema to them. If anyone tried to create it, then they would be
sent back to square 1!!

Given that the best people to create the schedule are those doing the work,
you will need dozens of people to access the file at the same time. Project
is single user as far as writing to the file is concerned.

I strongly recommend breaking the project up into phases with a schedule for
each phase. Use Project Server or other tools to consolidate all schedules
into an overall one.
