Project 2003...ODBC SQL Server Driver Communication link failure

E

Ernie Longino

Hi all,

I have a project manager reporting the following error any time he attempts
to save a specific project plan, which was opened from Project Server:

[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] Communication link failure

This PM can save other plans without issue. I have opened the problem plan
from Project Server 2003 and receive the same error when attempting to save
it back to Project Server 2003.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, has anyone found a resolution?

Thanks,

EL

There is a problem with the plan. This error can occur when there is a key
duplicated in the database. I suggest saving the plan to the file system and
deleting it from Project Server. Import the plan in Project Professional
(Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to Enterprise...) and publish it
to Project Server.

Thanks for the input Aaron ... The problem schedule has hours reported by
resources, that are awaiting acceptance. We cannot accept the time due to
the inability to save the schedule once the time is applied. Is there a way
to resolve the issue without losing the time (I realize that I could export
the time to Excel and then manually enter the time to the new schedule, but
wouldn't that cause issues with the resources time cards?)

Thanks again for your help...

Hi Ernie,

I don't know of a better way to do this. It would be worth posting this new
question to the newgroup. Alternatively you could create a test project with
some pending updates and then go through the delete/import process.
