Project 2003 Pro can't connect to server

Bob

We installed and configured Project 2003 Server. Then we
installed office 2003 and project pro 2003 on approx 15
machines. All but two connect to PWA and Proj Pro with no
problems. Two machines can connect to PWA, but cannot
connect via Proj Pro - they get -- "Cannot connect.
Project was unable to establish a connection with the
selected Project Server. This could be caused by a loss
of network connectivity, invalid user name or passwerd,
lack of an enterprise global template, or problems with
the project server or database, or your Project Server
may not have enterprise features installed." -- Tried
reinstalling the latest MDAC with no success.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've got the same problem. PWA works but Proj Pro doesn't
on the same machine! I suspect it is something in IIS
security but don't know what. I've tried just about
everything.

The only thing I'm sure of at this point is that it is
machine specific, and it's not MDAC. If I find anything,
I'll post it so we can both get these rogue machines
working.

Thanks for the input Chris.

We have two machines that exhibit this problem, and
twelve or thirteen that are connecting fine. Project
Server is operating with no problems for anyone else.
This is occuring between these two machines and both our
Dev and Production servers. I don't think both machines
could have a corrupt enterprise global at the same time,
and happens to work with everyone else ok.

Any other ideas?

oThe reason you are getting this error is because the
your global enterprise is corrupted. Need to restore
your global enterprise.
If you can test this out network connectivity and it
works and you can log into PWA with your user name or
passwrd,

I've gotten this problem before.
- Is that when you connect to Project Server, the browser
requires you enter username and password? If that is, your
Project Professional cannot connect to Project Server and
display error like that
- Try to login to that machine with a Windows user account
that have in Project Server. If you're using Active
Directory, login to Directory Account, not local account.
Or use anyway as long as you access Project Web Access
without confirmation from browser for entering username
and password.
- And then try to connecting to Project Server with
Project Professional.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the post.

The PWA uses windows authentication and these machines
connect via web browser without being asked to enter
login data. The server sees them and authenticates as
usual. I'm afraid that during some upgrades in the past a
dll was entered and not overwritten, or another
application is interferring with the communication
between Project Pro and the server.

Best regards,
Bob

Hy Bob!

I haave similar problem when reginal settings on my computer was not same as
regional setings on the project server,
and I have not installed localized veersion of Project Pro.

If tht is the case solution is to enter following registry key on client
computer:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\MS Project\Codepages\1250\1252]

Last two numbers "1250\1252" corespond to codepages on user computer
1250 - Central Europe
1252 - Latin 1

Of course you must find Code Pages on user computers end enter those Keys in
registry,

Best Regards

I got the same problem, and tried a bunch of things.

The only workable solution I have now is to have PP2003
connect remotely to the server first, and then they can
connect with PP2003 from the PP2003 server's client app.

2 at a times only, as limited by the default win2003
server default settings.
