Project 2003 Professional vs Standard?

R

Robert

I'm a user of Project 98.

As I look now for an upgrade, I'm finding out that Microsoft overs a two
products, "Project 2003 Professional" which lists at $197.00, and "Project
2003 Standard" which lists at $457.00.

Any suggestions to which version is better, and what are the major
differences other than the big price spread?

Thanks for the support at this community,

The only difference is that Project Professional supports Project Server.
So, if you aren't going to buy Project Server Project Standard is the
version for you.

Thanks Rod,

Any idea how much project server runs? I'm not familiar with that, other
than seeing it mentioned in the advertizing with Project 2003 Prof. like you
mentioned

Project Server is for managing multiple projects. A team of 10 people with
access to their own server plus someone in a Project Office type role to
manage reporting etc is needed to start making Project Server worthwhile.

The cost of Project Server is insignificant compared to the cost of hardware
and especially time to setup and maintain. But for larger teams and
organisations those overheads can be well paid back and more.

Hi,

Was this a mistype or a misread? Project Professional is significantly more
expensive than Standard!

Also bear in mind that with Project Server SQL Server is required, and that
can also be hugely expensive.

Unless you're running numerous projects thhat need visibility over an
enterprise, standard will do nicely for you.

Perhaps he picked the price of the upgrade or educational version.
