Project 2003 Server - Project Isolation for project admins + users

J

Joe Piccerillo

I have a customer that hired a contractor to configure Project Server 2003
about a year ago.
They are now asking if we can add a new group of users and at the same time
not view or manage each others projects. In reviewing books on this subject
I can not find any information about isolating projects to a project admin or
group of users. I'm I just missing the boat on this? Or do I need a
completely new instance of the project server and sqlserver to address this
request?

The server is setup with enterprise access.

I hope some one clear this up for me.

Does anyone from either group need access to the other groups' projects or
resources? If not, then you could create a second instance of Project
Server for the new group of users. Download and use the EditSite tool for
this purpose, available at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3e-54e1-40a9-9bb8-2dd293226b6f&DisplayLang=en

If people from one group need access to projects or resources from the other
group, then you would need to handle this through the use of custom Groups
and Categories to control who has access to what. We reference how to do
this in our book for Project Server 2003 administrators, available for
purchase by clicking the URL in my signature block. Hope this helps.

Another way of doig this, it could be the implementation of a RBS where, in
the categories assigned to each group, you could give them permission to see
only their projects.

That is often a suboptimal solution in this circumstance because the RBS
method does not permit peers to see each other's projects.

No they do not wish to see each other information
Each groupwould have it's own administrator.
With this method can I also isolate an administrator for each group
thanks for the quick response

If you use the EditSite tool to create a separate Project Server instance
for each group, each instance can have its own separate administrator(s).
Hope this helps.
