Project 2003 Standard - Global Template Problem

Mat

Hi Guys

Im having a few problems (having to use a non enterprise version of project)
trying to provide PM's in different locations (International) with a
standardised global template (the one from my machine). The first is that I
seem to have 2 versions saved on my machine (one in Local settings and one in
application data - and Im not sure if theyre the same or not)
Secondly, am i correct in thinking that if I sent someone a copy of my
global file and they overwrote their own copy it would give them the correct
settings ?
(obvioulsy once they copied views across from Global to project in the
organiser)
And finally once all this is done can I guarantee that if I have a certain
view set up with customised text fields in - that they will see the same ?

Thanks in advance

Mat

Matt,

Yes, you could send them your global to overwrite their own, but it is
easier to just use the organizer and move the tables and views from your
global file into a project file. Then send them the project file and they can
copy the views and tables into their global.

Make sure that you copy both tables and views (tables control the columns
shown) and any fields which you have customized. It is a good idea to name
these views and tables with non-default names - for example don't use a view
called Gantt Chart as their global already contains that by default.

Thanks Jack
my only problem is that the users I will be sending to are less than
familiar with project and anything that may involve thinking may not be an
option for them!!

can you advise which is the correct default location for the Global template
or a way of customising this location (C:) ?

Hi Mat
The other option you can use is send your colleagues a copy of your Global
Templates with your customisations contained therein. Then advise them to
place the template in the same folder as their project plans. What this will
do is to force project to use the template contained in the same folder as
the plans rather than the normal Global template. This also ensures that
their normal global template does not get corrupted in any way and they have
a fall back if any issues arise as a result of using the new template by just
deleting it from the folder. Project will then revert back to using the
normal Global.
