Project 2003 Tasks Disappear leaving blanks

I have seen this several times, but do not know a solution.

Project 2003 files seem to randomly delete the data from tasks, so that the
entire task row becomes blank. Filtering it does not show the task as
actually blank, but it appears to be so.

My current client has this happening when opening a project file that was
created in 2003, but modified in 2007 and then saved back to 2003.

Not sure if all instances of the problem are because of version issues.

Does anyone know why this is happening, and how to prevent or fix it?

Firstly, make sure Project 2003 is at SP3 level and Project 2007 at SP1.
That should sort out most problems. 2003 SP3 can read 2007 format.

If they are both up to date, there may be a file corruption so save the
project to .xml format then save back to .mpp to hopefully remove any
corruption.

I forgot to mention: This is Project 2003 SP3.

I have called the client to suggest the XML solution. Thanks for the
suggestion, I'll let you know if it works.
