Project 2003 wants Safe Mode when installed on Terminal Services?

Hi,

We have a Windows 2000 SP4 terminal server used solely to connect Project
2003 Pro SP2 users to a Project Server (SP2a). When Project is launched, a
dialog box comes up saying:

"Project failed to start correctly last time. Starting Project in safe mode
will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully
start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode. Do you
want to start Project in safe mode?"

We click "No" and then "Cancel" at the logon dialog box for Project Server
and Project terminates.

Restarting Project 2003 now will allow it to connect without the safe mode
warning dialog box. But when it's shut down, the next time it wants safe
mode again. The only thing in the event log is event 2001 "Rejected Safe
Mode action: Microsoft Office Project".

If you click "Cancel" at the Project Server logon dialog box even when it is
not asking for safe mode, the next time you start it, it gives you the safe
mode warning. So it's every other time that the warning occurs. None of the
other applications (all Office 2003) have this issue. It doesn't matter if
the user is a local admin on the terminal server.

Any guesses are appreciated!

Thanks,

Ray

?

.

I already did that, but this doesn't seem to be a server issue because it
never gets to the part where it actually tries to connect to the server.
Looks more like a TS issue, but I'm not sure.

Do you have any idea where Project looks to decide if it failed to start
properly?

That's as maybe, but Project Standard 2003 doesn't have a "safe mode", and
as you are using the Pro 2003 version with Project Server, I suspect this is
a function of integration with the server.
