I installed project 2003 on my Project server and i am able to get to the
home page. I don't have an "Admin tab" on the login screen. How am I suppose
to log in? What did I do wrong?

Did you log in using the built-in Administrator account, along with the
password you set when you installed the software?

I did a default install (no analysis services, no sharepoint services). Is
there anything wrong with that?

There's nothing wrong with it, as far as I can tell. Now, please answer the
question I asked.

R

Russ

What is the default user name?

Administrator. Is that the account you are using to log into the system?

I don't know Project Server that well only the WSS parts BUT I don't see how
you can get a home page without installing (Windows) SharePoint Services.

Also the installation guide for Project Server 2003 (at least the one for
single server that I used) very clearly includes
the installation of WSS before Project Server 2003 is installed.

I tried the Administrator account with the password that I provided during
the install. I did not install the Windows SharePoint services. Can I do
that now and then reinstall or just install WSS? Where in SQL can I locate
the default account (assuming that SQL is configured correctly)?

Yes, I do get a home page even though I did not install WSS. However, I
think that some features are missinig from the home page.

Give the difficulties you are having with this software, I would suggest
that you immediately "cease and decist" with your trial and error approach,
and instead, download the following guides from Microsoft:

Project Server 2003 Installation Guide.pdf
Project Server 2003 Configuration Planning Guide.pdf
Project Server 2003 Application Configuration Guide.pdf
Project Server 2003 Administrators Guide.pdf

You should read and thoroughly study these documents. I believe you are
working on the assumptions that Project Server is easy to install, easy to
configure, and easy to use. None of these assumptions are true. You can
download the guides at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...Project+Server+2003&productID=&DisplayLang=en

Beyond these guides, I would also suggest that you purchase our company's
two books on Project Server 2003, which are available for purchase by
clicking the URL in my signature block. I will invite the others to comment
on your latest questions.

Since I want to install Project 03 on a Windows 2000 server, what do I do
with Windows SharePoint Services?

You must install WSS on a server running Windows 2003 Server. Therefore,
you cannot use WSS in your current environment. Hope this helps.

R

Russ

OK, that is fine. We don't have to use WSS at all. But I can run Project on
a Windows 2000 server, right?

R

Russ

I did the install and everything seems to be fine (so I think). I can send a
task from my workstation to the server, so I guess it is working. I'm not
looking to have this massive application going. It's only three of us
utilizing it.

Thanks for your help. You've been very helpful. If I have anymore questions,
this would be the first place I go to.

Nope, I just used my Windows account. I got right in, no problems. All I'm
trying to do is publish a test "task" in Project Professional and trying to
view it online.

Is your user account in PWA part of the Administrator group? If not, you
won't see the Admin menu option at the top of the page.
