Project 2007 Archiving Projects

Hello,
I am testing Project 2007 Server and was wondering about the Archiving
procedures. I know there is a separate archive database that you can backup
closed projects to. Does anyone know if this backup procedure archives the
project workspace with the project plan or just the project plan?
Also, can you create custom views to point to backup projects - i.e. if we
have a view that shows "best practice" closed projects for other people to
use as references.

Thanks in advance,
KarenF

I believe the name of the database was poorly chosen, with the word
"Archive." Think of it simply as the "Backup" database. It is a easy
place to back up and restore project plans from. It does not archive
(or backup) the project workspace, and it is not easily accessible for
creating views or reporting on.
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't even think the
PSI includes methods to access the project data directly in the
archive database. I think you have to restore a project and then
access the data.

So, in normal use, for every project in the "Archive" database, there
will be a matching project in Published and/or drafts.

James,
Thanks so much for your quick reply. I have developed a "best practice"
projects view to view projects that exemplify our methodology and documents.
Usually these projects are closed when we view them and wanted to have them
sit somewhere else, but still have a link to them in this view. Oh well.
Another question: I just tried to do a backup and it chose to backup all of
the projects. Is this backup an all or nothing backup of projects? Or is
there a way we can pick and choose which projects we want backed up?

The backup of projects is an "all or nothing" proposition. You can restore
projects individually, however. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale. That's what I was afraid of.
