Project 2007 Crashes

M

Mike Mahoney

We occasionally get this error on saving a project plan (Project crashes)
Cannot find anything untoward in the plan and generally we can reopen and
save the plan. Is this just a desktop gremlin? Or do I need to search for
dodgy data?

Is this problem specific to one plan or all plans ?

If it is on just one plan, does it happen on different PC's (different local
cache stores) ?

We have a very limited number or MSP users at the moment. The current
problem relates to a specific user (and PC) but has ocurred with more than
one plan. I have a suspicion that it may relate to the use of master plans
or cross project links. For the particular user we did uninstall / reinstall
office and project because of a number of previous crashes.

Mike:

There are a number of activities that we know of that can cause Project 2007
to crash. Is it always upon opening that this happens?

The crashes generally occur on publishing, but do happen at other
times. It may be a feature of this particular desktop. We did
rebuild the users profile and project is now proving more stable, but
the error message described previously (PSError:
ActiveCacheInvalidDataFormat (12000)) concerned me.
We have had a history of "corrupt" projects which have taken a while
to clean up. These projects contained assignments which prevented my
task pages from running or often contained local custom fields which
could not be removed, so not sure if some of these projects may still
be around. Added to this we have an ongoing server event problem
(6482) which may be contributing to the situation - I will decribe
this in another thread. Whenever a crash occurs I generally delete
the cache folders.

regards

Mike
