To add to Gary's answer, you can also do the following:
1. Log into PWA 2007 with administrator permissions
2. Click the Server Settings link in the sidepane on the left
3. In the Database Administration section, click the Administrative Backup
link
4. Select the items you wish to back up and then click the Backup button
In Project 2003 I can save a copy of my Enterprise Custom Fields to a file
(*.MPP). This is helpful to backup Enterprise Custom Fields definitions from
a TEST environment and restore them to a production environment, without
restoring the entire db.
How can I do this in Project 2007? Where are the Administrative backups
stored? How can I save them to a file?
The definition data is copied from MSP_CUSTOM_FIELDS table in the
"YourInstanceName_published" database to MSP_CUSTOM_FIELDS table in the
"YourInstanceName_Archive" database. It's all about the database my friend!
So using the Administrative backup function moves information between
databases which, of course, you're already backing up. Let us know how this
feature works for you. We're all on the same learning curve.
At this point, I have not dug deep enough into Project Server 2007, but I do
not believe it stores the backups as an .mpt file any more. I suspect the
backups are stored in a database, but I'm only speculating. If anyone knows
for sure at this point, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, or to
provide additional information. Hope this helps.
