Project 2007 Timesheet does not save custom field data

I created a custom field at TASK level. I then added such a field to a
Timesheet view. I can see the custom field and I can type in data. The
problem is that the timesheet web part does not save the data!

On the other hand, if I add the same custom field to a Task view (for
statusing purposes), I can enter data and the web part regularly saves
it.

To further undestand the problem I set the "Roll down, unless manually
specified" option for the custom field. I then opened the project with
Project Professional and set a value for that field at assignment
level. I saved and published the project. When I create a new
timesheet, the web part crashes! I imagine it does so because it is
trtying to read the value of the custom field.

Basically it looks like the timesheet application is not able to save
or read custom field.

Any help would highly appreciated.

I found the solution myself. I post it hoping it can be useful for
other people.
The problem seems to be related to the "The timesheet will use
standard Overtime and Non-Billable time tracking" option in "Timesheet
settings and defaults" page in "Server settings" section. If I clear
the option, timesheet does not save date, if the options is set, data
is correctly saved!
