Project 95 - Qualifying Products for Upgrade?

Can anyone tell me what the qualifying products are to install Project for
Windows 95 - I no longer have the box which lists them, and cannot install
since I don't know what it's looking for.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Michael,
Are you sure you want to even install Project 95 ... I mean are you
really sure? Not only is Project 95 no longer supported but if you need
to interface with others who use Project, it is going to be difficult,
unless of course they also are using Project 95.

If the version you have is an upgrade, you will need to have an earlier
version of Project installed. If your Project 95 is a full version, then
all you need to do is to install it. As a matter of fact, I would go
ahead and try an install, the installer will tell you if your missing
anything.

If you don't use Project often and therefore do not want to invest
several hundred dollars for the latest version (Project 2003), you still
might want to look on one of the on-line auction sites (e.g. eBay). I
haven't looked in a few years but from previous experience you can often
find later versions at a reasonable cost. If you do, make sure what is
being sold is a full version.

John,

Thank you for the reply. When I purchased the upgrade copy of Project '95,
back in 1995 or 1996, I had never owned a previous copy of Project , but I
think that I did have a qualifying product (maybe Visio?) I never did get
much use from the program and I'd like to give it another try, but I can't
get past the "Locate qualifying product" phase. Any ideas on what the
"qualifying" products might be, other than Project?

Michael,
As far as I know, most applications that are upgrades require some
previous full version of that same application to be present - that's
what the installer looks for. I believe, although I'm not certain, that
an upgrade does not have all the files necessary to fully install the
application and so the installer looks for the "missing files" from an
earlier installation. I can't think of any reason why Visio or any other
application would be of benefit for upgrading Project.

If you tried running the install and got the message, I'd say you are
out of luck and need to purchase a full version, but as I said
previously, it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest. As a minimum
though, I wouldn't get anything earlier than Project 2000.

Hello again John,

I think that way back in the mid 90's, the version of Project I bought did
allow for a "competitive upgrade", since I did use it for a while, and never
did own a previous version of Project. Anyway, thank you for your input; if
I can't figure out how to get this thing installed, I'll pick up something on
eBay.

Thanks again,
Michael

Michael,
You're welcome and good luck.
