Project 98 - Losding to XP

S

steve

I have upgraded my notebook which runs XP. I want to load
MS Project 98. I have Project 98 Upgrade CD - my
previous version of Project (V4) is on 3.5 floppies and I
do not have a drive on my new laptop. Project 98 Upgrade
CD will not load on its own.

What is the solution, I do not want to purchase another
update of Project as the 98 version is more than adequate
for my needs.

Can anyone assist / advise please?

Try:

1. buy a floppy drive for the laptop which works on the USB switch ...
not very expensive.

or ...

2. buy from eBay or other used source a 'new' copy of Project 98

or ...

3. find a computer with a floppy disk. Copy the files from the disks
onto that computer. Get the files to the new computer (via CD, email of
zipped files, etc.) into a folders called, say, "\temp\project98\disk1,
\temp\project98\disk2\ ... etc. When Project install program asks to
"see" the old program, then point to where you copied these files. My
recollection is that it will want to see the contents of Disk1 (but I'm
not sure).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Steve,
The easiest approach is to borrow an external 3.5 floppy drive from
soneone. If you don't know anyone with a floppy drive, they probably
aren't very expensive although a trade off would be to find a full
version of Project 98 in an on-line auction such as eBay. If you get a
full version, make sure it contains the SR-1 update as the update is no
longer available by itself.

Another approach might be to find someone with a PC that has a 3.5
floppy drive and create a disk image of version 4.x on CD.

Good luck with the install.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You couold try getting a friend to copy them onto a CD and run it from
there. Otherwise, you'll have to buy a full copy of Project 98 - try an
auction house like ebay.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))
