Project 98 SR-1

Does anyone know where I can find SR-1 for Microsoft
Project 98? I came across a customer that needs SR-1 to
interface with a legacy app.

Thanks.

Scott,
Unfortunately Microsoft stopped supporting Project 98 about a year ago.
I have a couple suggestions.
1. Go to the MVP webpage at: http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs
and look at FAQ 12 - Project 98 service release 1
2. Take a look at one of the on-line autions (e.g. eBay). Project 98
SR-1 should be available at a very reasonable price.

Hope this helps.

I've been all over ebay, buy they don't have it. A few
say they have it, but the product numbers don't match.

The mvps.org site also doesn't help. The CDs were
discontinued on Jan 1, 2004.

Thanks anyway,

Scott

Scott,
I did a quick check on eBay. I found several auction items for Project
98, one specifically for Project 98 SR-1. I'm not sure what you are
looking for with regard to product number. If the auction says it is 98
SR-1 or you can verify it is SR-1 with an e-mail to the seller, I'd buy
it.

Sorry the MVP site reference didn't help. What legacy interface does the
client need? If it is older version .mpp files, they can be easily
upgraded to a format that is compatible with the newest versions of
Project.

The program is called Made2Manage (an ERP suite) built
around 1999. The program uses OLE and ODBC calls to
Project 98 SR-1 to run scheduling for the production
module. The version on e-Bay that says it is SR-1 is
product number 076-00138. This is the original Project 98
that I have and is not SR-1. To my knowledge, SR-1 was
not released retail, is was only available using the
upgrade disks that you had to order from Microsoft.
Project 98 prior to the SR-1 upgrade is not compatable
with the program.

If I have made en error in my assesment of SR-1's retail
release or product numbering, let me know so I can
continue my search.

Thanks for the help,

Scott

Scott,
You may be right about the retail release of SR-1. I checked my CD and
it says "Microsoft Project 98 with Service Pack" but then my company
bought it from Software Spectrum and I don't have a box or any reference
to part number. Did you try contacting the seller on eBay and asking
them why they thought it is an SR-1 version?

With regard to compatibility with Mode2Manage, I have no knowledge of
that application. However, has the client tried Project 2000 to check
for compatibility? Maybe the OLE and ODBC calls only require a simple
modification, if any, to work with a more available version of Project.
Just a thought.

I'm currently trying to find some new versions I can use
for testing. The hard part is finding trial versions that
can be downloaded. They won't pay for newer editions
unless they know for sure it will work.

Thanks for all the help. The CD I have does not include
the terms "with Service Pack". This is the elusive
version I can't find.

There's not a downloadable trial for Project 2003, it's simply just too
big to be made available for public download, but there's an as-good-as
free trial available on CD from the Microsoft web site. Cost is less
than $10 shipping and it's a time-limited version of the full product,
nothing disabled or removed. If the package that you're interfacing
with does so by reading the mpp files produced in P98SR1, you can set
the default file save format of the current release to write those files
same as 98 would.

No SR-1 was released retail. It was a fully new version. There was no
upgrade.
