Yes, Project 98 runs fine with Windows XP. If you get Project 98 make
sure you get service revision 1 (i.e. SR-1). You might also find that
you can get Project 2000 for an economical price and have some added
features that Project 98 does not have.

Make sure you're not buying someone's version of Project 98 that they
upgraded to Project 2000 or later. Software licenses are not transferable,
therefore, the version you could be purchasing will be illegal and
unsupported.

Why would you spend good money for software that is totally out of date?
Since P98 there has been P2000, P2002, and now P2003 and there have been
signifigant improvments in each release. This is especially true with
the upgrade from 98 to 2000 with the introduction of task deadlines and
the ability to track material resource consumption. P2002 brought
multiple baselines. I would strongly suggest that if you cannot justify
the expense of 2003, at least go back no farther than P2000.

Steve,
Are the multiple baselines in P2002 really something new? Even Project
4.x had the ability to save multiple interim baselines.

Yes they are - Interim plans are baseline type data but they're not the
complete set. The multiple baselines starting with P2002 are complete sets
of baseline data and are in addition to the 10 interim plans (which remain
available as well).
