Project and WSS 3.0 question

Walid

I am working on setting up a WSS environment for our organization for team
collaboration as well as a Project server for our PMO office. My plan is to
design this in the following manner:

1. Create a WSS farm of 4 servers (all WIN2K8 64-BIT)
a. 2 WFE
b. 1 SQL Server 2005
c. 1 Project server 2007 application Server

My questions is:
1. Should I create my WSS farm first and then install Project Server 2007 or
would installing Project Server 2007 create my WSS 3.0 farm for me in one
shot? I know that installing project server creates a sharepoint farm but is
this method recommended?

2. Is there a 64-bit edition of WSS 3.0 and 64-bit version of Project
Server available?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Walid

Ben,

Thank you for the info! I have read the link you sent me. What the technet
site doesn't tell me is that do I need to install WSS 3.0 in order to use
Sharepoint for my team sites?? I am assuming that WSS 3.0 is integrated with
the Project Server installatin and that I do not need to install WSS 3.0
prior to Project Server install. Correct? I just needed to verify this.

Also, I can not find any technet based documentation on deploying WSS or
Project server in a farm configuration on Windows Server 2008. If you know
of a link, would you please share that?

On the SQL 2008 note, it is not yet in the organization's approved list of
software. Otherwise, that would be my choice.

Best Regards,

Walid

Hi Walid,
WSS3.0 will be installed during the project server installation.

Re Win2008 in a farm, I haven't seen any documentation on that yet (single
server - yes), but the concepts and principles will be similiar to Win2003.

Good luck

Walid,

I am not Ben, but I think I can help. :)

1. For Windows Server 2008: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc531331.aspx
2. As to WSS 3.0 install - WSS installation is included in the Project
Server 2007 install. It does not need to be installed separately.

Thank you, Mark :) And -- thanks to everyone!
Thanks for the link - is there one that details a farm installation?

On another note, do I need a Project Server license for all the servers in
the farm or only on the one that is running as the application server? I
just can't see why I would need it on all my WFEs if they are not running the
Project Server application.

Also, are there alot more advantages to going to SQL 2008 as opposed to SQL
2005?

Best regards,

Walid
