Project Center

Help me understand how project Center saves emails associated with a project. As times I'm loosing email that should be associated with a project when that email is in my InBox within Entourage.

It seems that Project Center isn't copying the email to a source, but rather just holding it from its location in the InBox. If that's the case, it seems very cumbersome to keep up with making sure I don't accidently deleted a message in the mail section affecting the Project center.

Am I missing something? Thanks David

The project centre doesn't copy emails from their pre-existing location (or
contacts, events etc). Rather it acts sort of like a 'super-category' that
tags the emails with a particular category. This is shown in a folder listing
as a coloured dot against the item, with the colour of the dot matching the
category colour. while nothing can prevent you deleting an item, the coloured
dot will highlight the fact that the item is in a particular category when
you select it (or when you view the deleted items folder before emptying it)

You can also setup your own e-mail folder for the project, either as a
folder on the Exchange or IMAP mail server, or a local folder under your "On
My Computer" store. You would then associate that folder with the project
(in the project properties), and any messages moved into that folder are
automatically associated with the project.

This saves you the hassle of leaving these items lying around in your inbox,
and also offers a more efficient way to "tag" items that may not otherwise
meet your criteria (ie, sender or subject line) as part of the project --
just drop them into the folder and they automatically get associated with
your project.

Different question following up on this--is there a way to, say,
periodically copy all mail messages in a certain project to a dedicated
folder?

Example--I flag book reviews that are posted on a mailing list as
belonging to a project. Now I want to purge the entire mailing list
folder of three years worth of messages, but before I do that, I want to
copy all the book review emails in the book review project to a Book
Reviews folder. In the future, I want to repeat this every year or so.

I know I could probably set it up to have this happen automatically as
the emails are received, but I don't want to. I only want to do it
periodically as a cleaning exercise.

Thanks,
Daiya

Never mind--simply matter of designing a rule and then applying it to
all the messages in a folder.
