project central compatibility with newer release of project

We are still running ProjectCentral. Can Project Professional 2003 save into project central without causing damage?

If you have Project Professional 2003, is there any reason why you're
not also using the Project Server and Project Web Access? PWA is an
improvement over Project Central.
