Hi jcagots,
Sorry for the delay
I wish it was a fast analysis and fix
OK, let's do a recap...
If I have questions during the recap, I'll place them in parenthesis.
So you have 2 servers in you EPM configuration
Server 1
- Project Server 2003
- Windows SharePoint Services
(Did you install the latest service packs for both products)
Server 2
- SQL Server 2000 w SP4
- Analysis Services (Did you load SP4?)
1. Hard disk fails on SQL Server hosting the Project Server database.
2. Tried to restore entire hard disk unsuccessfully
3. Re-installed OS and SQL Server 2000 w SP4
4. Restored the databases (assuming ALL databases)
5. Attempted to access Project Web Access but received 5001 error
SEE KB Article 839773 for additional info
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839773/en-us?spid=2525&sid=292
6. Attempted reconfiguration of Project Server SQL user accounts,
reconnecting SharePoint databases, etc.
7. Restored old Project Server database backup
8. Now you can access Project Web Access but now there's a problem with
Windows SharePoint Services. (What do you mean the service hangs? Does
it take a long time to get a Web Error?)
9. The OLAP Cube is not updating.
Would this be a fair representation of what happened?
If so, I can see two issues:
A. It appears that you are missing the installation of the Analysis
Services client and DSO component on Server 1 (OLAP Cube creation)
B. It sounds like your databases (Project Server & WSS) are potentially
out-of-sync when you restored the old Project Server database backup.
So... Let's try a few things
CONFIGURE PROJECT SERVER COMPONENTS - OLAP CUBE/PORTFOLIO ANALYZER VIEWS
========================================================================
1. Make sure that Service Pack 4 for Analysis Services is installed on
Server 2
2. Install the Analysis Services Decision Support Object (DSO) component
on Server 1.
a. Then install Service Pack 4 for Analysis Services. (All
Analysis Services components must use the same version in order to
communicate properly)
b. Then add the OLAP service account to the newly created OLAP
Administrators local group on Server 1
2. Creating a SQL Server OLAP Administrators account
a. On Enterprise Manager, expand the console tree to Security,
right-click Logins, and click New Login.
b. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box,
click the ellipse button (?) next to the Name box.
c. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box, in
the List Names From, select \\<SQL Server Name>*, select OLAP
Administrators, click Add and then click OK.
d. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box,
under Defaults select Repository from Database.
e. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box,
click Server Roles tab, and select the Security Administrators and
Database Creators check boxes.
f. Click the Database Access tab, select the Permit check box for
Repository, and in the Permit in Database Role, select the
db_owner check box and click OK.
g. Close SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
3. Migrate the SQL Analysis Services Repository
a. Open Analysis Services - Analysis Manager.
b. In Analysis Manager right-click <SQL Server Name> and click
Migrate Repository.
c. On the Migrate Repository Wizard page, complete the
configuration. When you get to "Which SQL Server database do you
want to use for the repository?" Select the Repository database,
and then click Finish.
4. Re-Build the OLAP Cube
5. Settings the Roles and Permissions on the OLAP Cube
a. Open Analysis Services-Analysis Manager.
b. In Analysis Manager, expand the console tree, expand to <OLAP
Cube Name>, right-click Database Roles and click Manage Roles.
c. In the Database Role Manager window, click New.
d. In the Create a Database Role window, complete the
configuration by using the following information and then click
OK.
Role name: Type Portfolio
Membership: Click Add and add Active Directory Groups or Users:
Cubes: Click the Cubes tab and select the following Cube
names:
MSP_ASSN_FACT
MSP_PORTFOLIO_ANALYZER
MSP_RES_AVAIL_FACT
6. Create a Portfolio Analyzer view
a. Log on to PWA as Administrator and click Admin --> Manage
views.
b. On the Specify Views page, click Add View.
c. On the Specify Views web page, complete the configuration by
using the information in the following table:
View Type: Select Portfolio Analyzer
Name: <Name of Portfolio Analyzer View>
Mode: <PivotTable with Chart>
d. Click anywhere on the chart to bring up the PivotTable Field
List dialog box.
e. Drag and drop the fields to the corresponding zones to create a
chart.
f. In the Categories section, select the category(ies) allowed to
view this Portfolio Analyzer view and click Save Changes.
You're done!
Next...On to the SharePoint Issue
RE-SYNC WINDOWS SHAREPOINT DATABASE
===================================
1. Restore SharePoint database (configuration and conntent) to the same
point in time as the restoration of the Project Server database
2. Check connectivity to SharePoint Central Administration
a. Start Menu --> Programs --> Administrative Tools --> SharePoint
Central Administration
b. At the Central Administration page, under Virtual Server
Configuration, click Configure virtual server settings.
c. At the Virtual Server List, there should be two virtual
servers, one for Project Server, one for SharePoint. They should
also have two distinct URLs.
For example, on my demo machine Project Server is listed as
http://psdemo/ and version is Not Installed (since it's using
Active Server Pages)
SharePoint is listed as
http://psdemo:90/and version is 6.0.2.5530
since the virtual server has been extended with SharePoint.
(What are your settings on this page? Write them down)
d. Close SharePoint Central Administration
3. Check WSS connectivity from Project Web Access
a. Log on to PWA as Administrator and click Admin --> Manage
Windows SharePoint Services.
b. On the Connect to SharePoint Server page, click the link
http://<WSSVirtualServer>/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments
(Does it connect and open the Public Documents Project Workspace?)
d. Close the Public Documents Project Workspace.
e. On the Connect to SharePoint Server page, click Site
provisioning settings.
f. On the Windows SharePoint Services team Web site provisioning
settings page, verify that Settings for Web site creation is set
for "Automatically create..." and both check boxes are checked and
click Save Changes and then click Manage SharePoint Sites.
4. Check Connectivity to Project Workplace Sites
a. On the Manage Windows SharePoint Services sites page are the
URLs displayed? If they are, is the virtual server URL (not the
whole link) displaying the same URL as the Public Documents
Project Workspace in Step 3?
For example, my demo machine displays:
http://psdemo:90/sites/projectserver_101 for Project ID 101
b. Click the Site Address of a Project ID (101). If you can open
the Project Workplace for the Project ID, then full connectivity
works.
If not, reply back with the error message and we'll take the next
step.
Please let us know if this helped when you have a chance
Cheers,
