Project Dots

I've updated Entourage to the latest version, but after the installation of
SP2 the dots coloring projects have disappeared. Is this a common error or
is this indicative of a problem in my database?

It's a known issue introduced with one of the MacOS X security updates.
Hopefully a future system update will correct the problem :-\

My dots disappeared after the update, then I upgraded to Tiger over the
weekend and my dots are back (in all their glory).

Did you just do an upgrade off the Tiger disk, or did you also run software
update and install the new releases?

The version of Tiger on the disk is probably not completely up to date. If
you install security update 8, I'd guess your dots will disappear again.
Apple's software update has a combined updater which apparently includes
security update 8, although I didn't try installing it. I just went to the
website and installed upgrades individually, leaving out security update 8.

If you ran the combined updater and your dots are still there, it might mean
that the problem is fixed...

The colored dots appear on items that are associated to a particular
project. You can set the color for each project, and associate items to the
project, and the approiately colored dots will appear on the items as a
visual cue.

If you haven't assigned any items (email, notes, contacts, tasks, calendar
items) to projects, you won't see the dots. If you've installed security
update 8 from Apple, you won't see the dots either -- that's the topic of
discussion.

I have no idea what people are talking about. What are the colored dots?
Mine must be turned off as I have never seen colored dots in Entourage
2004.

Steve,

Excellent response and option provided!

I think I will do the same and wait until there is confirmed validation
that the latest combined update includes the fix.

I called Apple today by the way, as part of my bi-weekly follow-up on
this issue. I was transferred to a specialist and was informed that
Apple is "not aware of the problem"!!! I thought he was kidding--but,
he couldn't find anything internally that identifies update 008 as an
issue wrt Microsoft Entourage.

So, I wouldn't count on the combined update having the fix/patch.

The 10.4.3 update DOES restore the project dots.

I can assure you, it has been reported to Apple. I raised a bug report
myself, and I have been told that people at MS have also reported the
matter.

So, I wouldn't count on the combined update having the fix/patch.

Rest easy, it does.
