Project duplicated with name MSPJ (does not show as a duplicate)

Greetings!

We are using Project Server 2002 with SP1 and have an issue we can't put our
finger on. We all of a sudden have a duplicate project with a different name
(called MSPJ) and negotiated finish date.

The owner of the original project has made no modifications.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this?

Thanks!

Andres:

It's unlikely that a duplicate project could appear out of thin air without
someone taking an action. In Project Web Access, go to the project center
and select the project in field that doesn't have a link, click the edit
button on the toolbar and see who the owner of the project is. That will
tell you who last saved it.

Yes, we verified that it's the same project owner and we have not been able
to draw out what exactly was done...

We decided to delete the "extra" project with the new name "MSPJ" and lo and
behold both projects got deleted (the original and "copy"). Thank goodness
for backups!

Of course, we have no idea what caused the problem so the question remains,
has anyone seen this before?

As I stated before, perhaps too obtusely: User error is the cause.

Heh, thanks Gary.

Yeah, I figured that. I guess I was hoping for a known mis-step that can
cause this a la the "save-as" problem that creates duplicates...

Thanks!
