Project Duration is not accurate

My project begins on 7/14 and ends on 8/17 - and my current plan is reflecting a 47 day duration? My subtask durations are correct but the summary tasks are inflated. I do have the calculation set to automatic so I am not sure what the problem is. I also have fixed units assigned and I did try changing to fixed duration but it did not make a difference. I would be happy to send my plan to anyone who may want to offer advice.
