i am using MSP 2003. i have listed my summary tasks and subtasks as well. but
when i enter the start dates in subtasks it automatically enters finish dates
as per the mentioned duration. after entering duration and start dates for
all subtasks and predecessors as well, it shows the duration of the summary
task with decimal poiints.

can i hvae the solution for it? in some summary tasks it is giving roound
figure and in some cases it is showing durations with decimals.

is there any way to sort this out?

thanks

Hi,

One of your tasks doesn't start or end at beginning/end of day.
Go to tools, options, view, and as Date Formt select the one at the top
(with 11:33) to show time of day.

Pardon me for bumping in here, but you should not be manually typing
in dates for your tasks. Use predecessors and successors to drive
your schedule -- not hard coded dates. Also the duration of a summary
tasks is not the sum of the subtask durations. It is the duration in
working time from the start of the earliest of the subtasks to the end
of the latest.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

thanks for the information. but again as suggested by "Jan De Messemaeker" i
have changed the date format to check the start and finish time.

is it like MSP calculates the time automatically? as i have entered duration
as 1 day for the subtask startiing at 30th May (8:30 am) then i would like it
to show fiinish date and time as 30th may, 5:00 pm. but it is not. instead of
that it shows starting on 30th May 8:30 am and finishing on 31st may 9:00 am.

how could it be possible?

also in all subtaask it is not taking starting and finishing time as
mentioned in the calender.

help me!!!!

Thank you

HI,

It seems that what you have as a definition of "a day" in Tools, Options,
Calendar, is not consistent (i.e. one half hour more) than what is teh
working time of a day in the project calendar (Tools, Change Working time).
And yes, Project calculates EVERY date/time to the minute. The day is NOT
the basic unit, it is just so many hours as you define in the options.
I thought all of this is explained in the faq?

Hope this helps,
